As it stands, students at Memorial High School in Manchester are not allowed to choose who takes their senior yearbook photo. This, according to a new iPetitions campaign that looks to change this policy.

According to the petition, only senior photos taken through Mark Lawrence Photographers will be allowed to appear in the yearbook. The petition goes on to state that there appear to be no cost controls such that students would be required to pay the studio whatever rate they charge.

Students buy their yearbook but don't have an option to choose the photographer to take their photo for it. ML can charge whatever they want with this new arrangement, which could be costly for parents. Requiring students to go to a specific photographer limits their options and hurts other photographers' business. It is my understanding that a bid for this type of contract has not been publicly noticed so other photographers have not been made aware of this news."

Whether this applies to other schools in Manchester, or whether other districts have a similar arrangement, has not been confirmed as yet. On the face of it, this seems a rather unusual and unfair policy. Read the entire iPetition here.
