Five Dallas police officers are dead after snipers opened fire on law enforcement in the heart of Dallas.

The shootings took place during a protest over two recent fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

As the city of Dallas mourns the killings of five police officers, Mayor Mike Rawlings says one of four suspects in last night's attack is dead. Three other suspects are in custody. Rawlings also updated the media saying now 12 officers and 2 civilians were shot. President Barack Obama is calling the sniper attack "despicable," and says there is no justification for the violence
