Study Finds Country Lyrics Rank the Smartest

Catch us up a little catfish dinner, gonna sound like winner! Okay, maybe they weren't speaking specifically about Luke Bryan's That's My Kind of Night but on the whole, country lyrics have the smartest lyrics going.

This will come as little surprise to those of us who know and love country. While there certainly are some party songs that aren't trying to stimulate your intellect, there are far more songs that are thoughtful musings on real life stories about love, life and loss.

More than any other genre, country celebrates the songwriter. Being a great singer doesn't necessarily make you a great lyricist and, likewise, the inability to sing shouldn't preclude you from penning a classic. Songwriters really are the heart of Nashville.

The top rated on the intelligence scale according to the seatsmart.com survey? Carrie Underwood! She finished just ahead of Blake Shelton for top honors. Florida Georgia Line, the consummate party band, didn't fare as well ranking last in the genre.

Sadly, the trend on the whole suggests that lyrics are getting dumber across the board over the past decade. The world needs more Jamey Johnson and Kacey Musgraves to keep the bar high.
