Say it ain't so, Savario's! After a 26 year run, amicable owner Frank Catalino closed the State Street staple for good on Tuesday. Legendary for both great pizza and unpredictable hours, locals loved everything about this tiny little shop.

Man, I adored this place. Back in the early 2000's, I used to grab lunch there twice a week. They had a deal where you could get two slices and a coke for about three bucks, and those slices were just perfect in every way. The spot on balance of sauce and cheese, the thin Italian crisped just enough-- it pains me that I won't have another. And don't even get me started on the calzones.

During the early dating days with my wife, back in 2006, I was excited to show her all the hidden gems in the seacoast area and Savario's was visted on Day One: the consummate example of a hole in the wall with great food. Tourists overlooked it and the rest of us loved it. Good luck, Frank, we're all going to miss you!
