Maine State Police say the car had left the highway near Exit 36 southbound and struck the guardrail, coming to rest in the roadway. It was then struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer, wedging the car under the cab of the truck.

Wreckers had to lift the truck off the car to free the trapped driver, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

22 year old Abdirahman Mohamed of Portland is at Maine Medical Center.

The driver of the truck, 46 year old Mark Pierce of Standish, was not injured.
