Congratulations! You finally met the love of your life. You dated, maybe moved in together, and finally decided to get married. You're going to be the happiest couple ever...until you aren't.

Some people don't realize they're not ready to get married until the day of their wedding. Just think back to that Julia Roberts movie, Runaway Bride.

It's hard to figure out exactly how many weddings get called off each year. It's isn't exactly the kind of thing people go around bragging about. But the engagement ring website Brilliant Earth did a study to see which states have the highest percentage of engagement rings being returned to stores.

And what they found is...Vermont is one of the most heart-broken states in the entire country. As a matter of fact it has the fifth highest rate of engagement ring returns.

One other New England state also stands out...but for different reasons. Massachusetts ranks third on the states that think size matters. Massachusetts was one of the states with the biggest diamond purchases based on average carat size. It's fifth on the list of states that spent the most.

As you ponder all of that, I'll leave you with this quote from Comedian Milton Berle...

"Marriage is a three-ring circus. First the engagement ring, the the wedding ring, then the suffering."
