Not sure why, but every cause has a color these days. Maybe someone came up with the idea just to help keep things straight. In any case, Thursday is "Go Orange" day and it's designed to point out that, while you may know what you're having for lunch and/or dinner today, one out of every nine folks in New Hampshire aren't quite so sure about where their next meal is coming from, let alone what it actually might be.

That's where the Food Bank comes in. Did you know that there are over 400 local food pantries in the Granite State? We've called the New Hampshire Food Bank "the mother ship" over the years because that's kind of how it works. The local pantries get what they can from their respective communities, and then come to the Food Bank for whatever else they may need. In some instances the Food Bank will deliver out to the local pantries as well.

It's a massive undertaking that starts with a donation of either food or cash. If it's food, it's quality checked, inventoried, stored, made available to the pantries in need and either picked up or delivered. Same process for every can of peaches or loaf of bread. Now imagine doing all that for over 8 million pounds of food! That's exactly what the New Hampshire Food Bank did in 2013 and will do again this year.

September is Hunger Action Month, and this year New Hampshire's own Melanie Gosselin is the National Chairperson. In the world of food donations, Mel is kind of a big deal. She'll be joining us live on Thursday morning as we broadcast the Morning Waking Crew from inside the Food Bank. We'll tell you about how it all works, other events that are happening in September and be joined by several guests including Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas and WMUR-TV's Jamie Staton.

Don't forget to wear your orange on Thursday.
