( Kittery, Maine) - A formal decommissioning ceremony was held at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard today where the nuclear powered submarine was destroyed by a fire set by a shipyard worker  in May of 2012. Rear Admiral Ken Perry, who was the last commander of the sub, said everyone is disappointed that the USS MIAMI is leaving service 10 years early. The Navy had originally intended to repair the sub, but decided to scrap it after estimated repair costs skyrocketed.
