Clark's Trading Post is holding auditions for the infamous Wolfman character that entertains passengers on their train ride. Most people love him, but others are not big fans...

There is a menace who has been terrorizing New Hampshire visitors for over 40 years, but pretty much everyone loves him.

The Wolfman that chases the train at Clark's Trading Post in Lincoln, NH is an iconic staple of the White Mountain Central Railroad attraction. Since the early 1970's, Families have come across him along their train ride and scream "scram you old goat!" to shoo him away.

Clark's is now looking for a new Wolfman for the 2016 season and beyond. This is a dream job for anyone who cannot stand the tie-and-cubicle lifestyle.

Personally, I would love to be a Wolfman and think it is a delightful addition to an iconic destination. Most people that left reviews on TripAdvisor thought so too.

Yet, there are some parents on TripAdvisor that thought he was too much. Even though Clark's clearly explains the Wolfman's role in the ride, there are some people with sensitive children who didn't do their research first.

Anne E, Manager at Clark's Trading Post and the White Mt. Central RR, responded to these negative comments about their Wolfman.

We are very sorry your child was scared by the Wolfman. We do advertise that Wolfman is part of every train ride experience. Some children truly enjoy the skit. Other children are more timid and afraid, mostly due to the loud noises. Here are some suggestions for people who are coming with small children for the very first time.

1. Let your child know they will be seeing the Wolfman while on the train ride.
2. Let them know he is just pretend, like an actor.
3. Take time to show your child our website. We have a whole page dedicated to the Wolfman. This way they will know why Wolfman is chasing the train.
4. Once at Clark’s, you may choose to speak with the engineer or the conductor. If you are on the excursion car closest to the engineer, the sounds of the locomotive drowns out the sounds of the Wolfman. If you go to the other end of the train, the conductor will be near your child to help protect them from the Wolfman. The conductor is sensitive to small children’s needs and will try to make sure your child has a good time.
5. At the end of the day, Wolfman signs autographs outside the Gift Shop. Many kids who may not have liked him before, make friends with the Wolfman when they realize he is not a bad guy after all.

Nothing bugs me more than people leaving bad reviews, not because of the business, but when they have an issue that could not be prevented. Clark's clearly states there is a man playing a crazy old coot on the ride. They can't help the fact that your kid gets a little spooked.

Even so, I think kids should get a good scare every now and then because it builds character. Keeping kids in the land of sunshine and rainbows is nice and all, but then we will have a generation who cannot cut it when things get tough.

An experience with something like the Wolfman at Clark's Trading Post should be a staple in every childhood. The kids get a thrill, adults get a chuckle and some lucky actor gets to live the dream job. I give that kind of family experience a 5 out of 5.
