ATLANTA(AP) - The "polar vortex" is running out of steam and it'll be welcome relief for residents in about half the country shivering in the arctic blast. Forecasters say winds are calming and temperatures are expected to begin warming today, though many places will still be chilly. New England will see that warmer weather this weekend.

 

(Rochester,NH) – A Rochester man has been arrested on several charges after he fired a handgun in his home and the bullet travelled into the home across the street. 25 year old Corey Field was charged with reckless conduct and placing another in danger after the bullet went through a glass window and two walls of the home at 15 Leonard Street and ended up hitting a 20 year old in the forehead, causing no injury.

 

SEABROOK,N.H.(AP) - Three police officers in Seabrook have been suspended after a video surfaced showing an officer slamming a suspect into a wall at the police station in 2009. Town Manager Bill Manzi says the officers were put on paid administrative leave yesterday, one day after the video appeared on YouTube. The officers names have not been released.

 

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The NH House is scheduled to vote today on whether 17-year-olds accused of crimes should be treated as juveniles or adults. Forty other states and the federal government treat the youths as juveniles.New Hampshire lowered its age from 18 to 17 in 1996 and attempts to raise it have failed over the years.

 

AUGUSTA,Maine(AP) -Mainelawmakers return to work today for the new legislative session. Among the top issues is to craft a supplemental budget to address funding shortfalls. One of the most partisan debates this session will likely be over Democrats' renewed push to expand Medicaid coverage to cover about 70,000 more Mainers under the Affordable Care Act.
