Well it was bound to happen sooner than later...but I wish it hadn't happened in my bed, right before I was ready to go to sleep. I pulled a tick off of Marley last night.

I usually give him a good going over every time we get back inside from a walk in the woods or the dog park. But this time I missed one. It had gotten up under his collar...so I pulled it off and flushed it. Then spent the next 15 minutes looking at every inch of his furry little body. At first he thought it was a game. But by the times I started spreading apart his toes and looking at the pads of his feet, he was annoyed and ready to sleep in the living room.

It's not even summer, but according to the Concord Patch, the ticks are really bad already. They claim the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says the U.S. isn't fully prepared to handle the issue. Here in New Hampshire, we saw the "10-most tick-related cases between 2004 and 2016."

An article in the Concord Patch says there are some steps you can take to prevent being bitten by a tick.

1. Stay on cleared paths and hiking trails when walking in the woods.

2. Wear long-sleeved shirts and tuck your pant legs into your socks so that ticks cannot crawl up the inside of your pants.

3. Use repellents with DEET to prevent ticks from attaching.

Make sure you speak to your vet about the best source of keeping ticks off your pets. But at a minimum...make sure you give them the once over EVERY time you come back inside. Or else you may end up finding one right before bed like I did. I swear it felt like one was crawling on me every time I had an itch.
