(Washington, DC) - A National test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) will take place at 2:18 Wednesday afternoon.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is the national public warning system that provides the President with the communications capability of addressing the nation in a national emergency.

Radio, TV and Cable system stations do their tests of the system regularly.

Tomorrows test message will be sent to cell phones connected to wireless providers that are participating in the WEA. It is the first national test of the system.

The text message will read : "This is a test of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed."
