You May Be Shocked Where New Hampshire Ranked for State Mottos

Yahoo! Travel recently conducted their own survey of all 50 state mottos. You might be surprised to find out where New Hampshire's 'Live Free or Die' ranks on their list?

We here in the Granite State narrowly missed out on the top spot! According to Yahoo! Travel, New Hampshire has the 2nd most loved motto in the entire nation. That's pretty impressive if you ask me!

Here is the ranking for the rest of the New England states:

Maine's motto, 'Dirigo,' which translates to... I direct, didn't seem to impress those conducting the survey, it came in at #43

Connecticut ranked #27 with their motto: “Qui transtulit sustinet” (He who is transplanted still sustains)

Rhode Island came in at #19 with 'Hope.' The smallest state in the nation cracked the Top 20 with their one word motto.

Massachusetts placing in the Top 10 (#8) with...“Ense petit placidam sub libertate quietem” (By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty)

Vermont squeaks right by Massachusetts to land at #7 with their motto: 'Freedom and Unity.'

Of course, as we mentioned, New Hampshire gets the silver with 'Live Free or Die.'
