Once in a while there are headlines in the news that make you do a double take and this is one of them.

From this morning's Union Leader there is a story about fire officials checking firewood being burned this weekend in camps at New Hampshire Motor Speedway through Sunday during race weekend. The reason behind this is to prevent a bug called them emerald ash borer from spreading throughout the state. The bug is native to Asia and destroys ash trees in its path.

If you're a boater, sometimes people inspect your hull for plants and weeds like milfoil so this is  a preventative measure that is very much like that. So be forewarned before you head to the track to use only native New Hampshire wood for your fires. Buying it locally will be good for the New Hampshire economy as well while you enjoy the race.
