If you have asthma and you live on the Seacoast in Salisbury, Amesbury, Newburyport or anywhere in Massachusetts, you may qualify for the next round of vaccines with the addition of this medical condition.

According to a report from WCVB, if someone has two medical conditions or more, they will become eligible for the vaccine.

There are several conditions, called comorbidities, that are considered when determining vaccine eligibility.  They are, according to the WVCB report:

  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Down syndrome
  • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
  • Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
  • Obesity
  • Severe obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Smoking
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Asthma (moderate-to-severe)

If you're wondering if you qualify for the vaccine, click here for the Mass.gov website.  In New Hampshire, just click here to find out.

So far, from the people I know who have received the vaccine, there is no real side affects that they experienced except for one.  I have a young friend in her 30's who works at a hospital.  The first shot didn't affect her at all, however, the second one really through her for a loop.  She recovered just fine, but she didn't expect the fever and chills that she experienced with the second shot.

I think if you are aware of the symptoms that may arise when you get the shot(s), you'll be more prepared.  I'm not due to get the vaccine for a while, so in the meantime, I think I'll stock up on cold medication.
