If you want to watch some pond hockey this weekend, make your way to White Park in Concord for the 4th Annual Black Ice Pond Hockey Tournament. See, the cold snap served a purpose after all! If you haven't seen organized pond hockey, it's 4-4 hockey on a sheet about half the size of a typical rink and the goals are as seen in the photo (no goalies, so no love for me). There's no checking or lifting the puck, so it's all about stickhandling skills and skating. Action runs morning through night Friday and Saturday and wraps up by noon on Sunday. Certainly worth a look-see for hockey fans. Coincidentally, the NHL Stadium Series features outdoor games at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (!) and Yankee Stadium in New York this weekend.
