Does This Augusta, Maine, Restaurant Really Have the Best Sushi in the State?

When it comes to international foods, I have always been an adventurous eater.

When I was in college, we had a class that was dedicated to teaching us etiquette in a business setting.  Making sure that you keep your potty mouth to a minimum, for example.

One of the classes focused on trying foods that you may encounter at business meetings.  One of the items the instructor brought in was sushi.  While many of the students were very reluctant to try it, I could not get enough.

That is true to this day.  I love my sushi!

Maine Has Plenty of Sushi Options

In the early 00s, if you wanted sushi in Maine, your options were very limited.  There were just a few restaurants serving sushi.

These days, sushi is everywhere.  Sure, it is available at plenty of great Maine restaurants, but it is also available at many grocery stores.

What Restaurant Serves the Best Sushi in Maine?

Over the last few years, we have seen numerous articles written about the best places to get sushi in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and the rest of the country.

Recently, 24/7 Wall Street put out their list of the best places to get sushi in each state.  For Maine, they chose Miyaki in Portland.

While we are sure that Miyaki is a great restaurant and probably makes some amazing sushi, we went in a different direction for our choice.  We chose to go with our gut (our tastebuds, too).

We believe the Kume in Augusta has the state's best sushi.

Like many Japanese restaurants, Kume has a menu filled with sushi rolls and a la carte sushi & sashimi offerings. Spicy maki, crab stick, Unagi Don, and the iconic California roll.  However, the real standouts on the Kume sushi menu are the Chef's Specialty Rolls.

These rolls are true works of art.

The Angry Dragon Roll is a favorite of many.  It has shrimp tempura, spicy crab, avocado, cucumber, and asparagus.  The roll is topped with New York steak.

In addition to great sushi offerings, the restaurant has a full menu of Japanese noodles and rice dishes.  Kume also offers hibachi, which is perfect for special celebrations.
