How Often Do You Really Need to Change Your Toothbrush?
When I was younger, I was not as concerned about my dental health as I should have been.
Yes, I brushed my teeth on a daily basis, but I was less concerned about taking care of my teeth than I should have been. I did not brush my teeth as often as I should and rarely went to the dentist.
What made me change my ways?

These days, I am a stickler for keeping my teeth clean.

I brush my teeth after nearly every meal and I get my teeth cleaned by my dentist on a regular basis.
Because I brush my teeth so often, and I brush so vigorously, I go through toothbrushes really quickly. I may get a month out of a toothbrush. After that, the bristles are so frayed that the toothbrush does not scrub as well as it needs to.
It may be less time if the kids or cat knocks it on the floor. Yeah, I am not using a toothbrush that fell on the bathroom floor. Ewww!
How Often Do You Really Need to Replace Your Toothbrush?
According to Colgate, the people who make toothpaste and toothbrushes, you need to replace your toothbrush every three or four months.
Of course, other factors may require you to change your toothbrush more frequently.
The Colgate website also says:
Consider getting a new toothbrush sooner if you have been sick, especially if the toothbrush is stored close to other toothbrushes. When in doubt, look at the bristles. If they are frayed, they won't clean teeth as thoroughly. Because children often brush more rigorously than adults, they may need their toothbrushes replaced more often.
