It seems like we are always learning new words and abbreviations.

Think about it, these days, everyone knows what a USB connection is.  Even if they do not know what USB stands for (universal serial bus), they know what one looks like and what they are used for.  Twenty years ago, that was not the case.

Text and chat abbreviations are the same way.  We are always learning new ones.

As much as I hate to admit it, I only learned what 'IYKYK' meant about a year ago.  I had seen it used before, but it was not until I saw it used by one of my supervisors in a Teams chat that I decided I should probably Google it to figure out what it meant.  If you don't know, it means: "If You Know, You Know"

There is nothing wrong with doing a quick internet search to determine what a text abbreviation means.  Some people are sending 'HMU' and 'ASL' on the regular, while others are still thing 'LOL' means "Lots Of Love".  Yes, that one can get really awkward really quick.

Here are the most Googled text and chat abbreviations in Maine in 2025.
