Last month, an off-duty cop was at the stern of a boat on Pepperell Cove in Kittery, Maine, and captured a video of a humpback whale breeching the water!

The Kittery Police Department posted a video on their Facebook page that's incredibly cool.

This week, a great white shark was spotted near the Maine coast!

Where was the Great White Shark spotted?

The juvenile shark measured at over eight feet long. It was first spotted in Biddeford last week, then headed towards Crescent Beach and Pine Pone on Thursday, as per the article.

As the shark got closer, the word spread. The next day, a fisherman saw it off Cape Elizabeth, and again on Monday morning.

As per the post, the Scarborough Harbor Master, Daryen Granata, is cautioning the public to stay vigilant, since there have been so many sightings.

Even though the beaches have remained open, Maine Department of Marine Resources want you to follow shark safety tips.

Here are a few below:

  1. Avoid shiny jewelry when swimming
  2. Stay close to the shore
  3. Avoid murky water that you can't see clearly through
  4. Swim in groups

Why do we have to stay cautious? It was only four years ago that the state of Maine had its first deadly shark attack.

As per WGME, a great white killed Julie Dimperio Holowach in Harpswell. Since then, so many of us have changed our swimming habits because, it can happen here.

Some swimmers are reconsidering their water activities this summer.

"I'm a kayaker, and I’m rethinking my outing tomorrow," said Portland resident Karen Willens  to WGME 13.
