
Move Over Cape Elizabeth – There’s a New Richest Maine Town
When you think of a rich suburb of Portland, Maine you instantly think of Cape Elizabeth or Falmouth. Not anymore.
The Portland Press Herald dug into the U.S. Census Bureau’s number of Mainers, income, and where they live. We know that area codes 04105 and 04107 have some of the highest incomes. But for the first time, Cumberland beat both of them.
Cumberland, Maine has a median household income of $154,375
According to the article in the Portland Press Herald, Cumberland had a jump of 40% in five years for the average household income to a whopping $154,375. This put Cumberland in the top richest Cumberland County towns and the richest suburb of Portland, Maine. Scarborough, North Yarmouth, and Freeport were also high on the list of wealthy towns.

Teddy Piper a broker and owner of the real estate agent Re/Max By the Bay told the Press Herald that he wasn't surprised,
Part of it is, it was undervalued for a long time.
He said that having Greely High School ranked as Maine's best high school helps keep the financially stable. Plus, Cumberland has a public beach, pier, and walking trails that I discovered accidentally once and fell in love with! If you are moving from out of state, you can feel a tad more rural in Cumberland and still have close access to all the amenities to spend that $154,375.
