Open Letter to the Dangerous Drivers Speeding Too Fast Past Maine Schools
This is a quick little PSA that I decided would be beneficial to have circulate the internet after hearing the impact it had on local parents once I spoke about it recently.
As I'm sure most of you already know, there's been an ongoing issue in towns in Maine.
Just last week, according to WMTW, a child was hit by a car on the crosswalk, walking exactly where he was supposed to be, and he still got struck.
I spoke to a very kind Westbrook police officer earlier this week who explained to me that they're trying hard to bring extra awareness to the speed limits in school districts and how they need to be taken more seriously than some people are taking them.
Yes, this has been an issue in Westbrook, but honestly, this should be applied to any school district across the state.
It's something that can slip our minds unless we're constantly being reminded that kids will jump out in the middle of the road or crosswalks on accident. Personally, I feel like it's our duty as adults that know better to be on the lookout for those things since we're the ones who know better.
Anyways, and please take this with a grain of salt, I just feel like almost everybody is so addicted to their damn smartphones while they're driving that they forget children are running around everywhere once during the school day. This is just a reminder to please stay aware of your surroundings while you're driving through different cities this school year.
It will make such a huge difference.
