I've seen two of these odd-looking things in Portland, Maine, and found out what they are.

I have been driving by one of these little tall robot things at the Hannaford Supermarket by Back Cove in Portland, Maine for months. I truly had no idea what it was and didn't pay much attention to it.

It appeared to be solar powered, and with cameras - but there is nothing on it that signals what exactly it is. I didn't give it a second thought until I saw a second one. Then I started wondering, what exactly is this? The second one I saw was near the new development on the bottom of Munjoy Hill called Portland Foreside. The development slowly coming to the area near the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum.

A little different in design and upon further inspection from a different company.

These weird things in Portland, Maine are security cameras

Come to find out, it's Big Brother watching you and making sure you don't do anything you aren't supposed to. I'm sure they enjoyed the video of me walking up to it, taking pictures, and trying to find out what it was. The one at Portland Foreside is from a company Stallion Infrastructure Services.

Okay, okay. I'm starting to get it. The one in the Portland, Maine Hannaford parking lot is also a surveillance camera, but from a different company. That one is from a company called LVT, same exact concept. Not exactly sure what they are looking for, but I'm sure they have their reasons to watch the parking lot.

They are solar-powered, mobile, and can give you 24/7 surveillance that you can watch from your laptop.

If you see one of these weird things where you are - smile, you are being watched.
