
Portland, Maine, Boasts One of the World’s Best Restaurants, Says Andrew Zimmern
To say celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern is a globe-trotter may be an understatement. His Travel Channel show "Bizarre Foods" was a showcase of Zimmern's love of travel and different styles of cuisine.
But when you travel often, there becomes places that feel like a home away from home. Andrew Zimmern has stated multiple times that he considers Portland, Maine, to be one of those places. Zimmern also believes the city is home to the one of the best restaurants in the world.
Andrew Zimmern Calls Fore Street One of the Best Restaurants in the World
According to BBC, Zimmern was asked to rattle off the best of the best he's eaten during his travels. When asked about classic New England fare, he didn't hesitate to proclaim he'd have his last meal at Fore Street in Portland, Maine.
Zimmern fell in love with Fore Street over two specific things. The first being the taste of every dish that is cooked with the open fire style. The other being the restaurants consistent usage of seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients and how it varies the menu.
Andrew Zimmern Has a Long History with Loving Portland, Maine
Zimmern's father lived in Portland for the last decade of his life. When Andrew would visit, his father would introduce him to many of the restaurants that Andrew still considers his favorites today.
Zimmern still visits Portland as often as he can. He finds the beaches and hospitality to be world-class. He also believes that the food scene in Portland, Maine is "incredible" and deserves even more recognition than it has gotten.
