A smokey fire burned at an industrial building in Dover Sunday night that took several hours to clean up.

The fire on Industrial Park Drive was reported by drivers at around 5:30 p.m. when they saw smoke and fire coming from the building that houses North East Cutting Die around 5:30 p.m., according to Dover Fire Chief Michael McShane. Fire was shooting through the roof of the metal 100' X 100' building when the first firefighters arrived, leading to all off-duty personnel to be called in.

The fire was declared under control about two hours later, but a third alarm was struck for assistance with the extensive salvage and overhaul of the building, according to McShane.

The building was unoccupied at the time, and no firefighters were injured.

The Dover Fire and Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire, but the blaze does not appear to be criminal in nature, the chief said.

North East Cutting Die has been in business since 1962 and manufactures molds, fixtures, and machine tolls.
