This is about VO guys... It stands for "voice-over." If you're a radio guy like me and you do some voice work for commercials (New England Dragway, Stratham Tire) then you're "a VO guy." If you're someone like the late Don LaFontaine or Saturday Night Live's Don Pardo, then you're "a voice-over artist." Yes, the big difference is in the paycheck! We met Don LaFontaine several years ago in a great Geico TV commercial where he appeared on camera in a lady's kitchen "translating" her Geico story. He passed away in 2008 and was widely associated with the movie trailer phrase "in a world..." But he wasn't the originator of that phrase. That honor belongs to another voice-over artist named Hal Douglas who Screen Crush is reporting just died at the age of 89. He'd been battling cancer and was out of the game for several years. He was the voice of the Lethal Weapon movie trailers and countless others. The only time you ever saw him was in a trailer for the 2002 documentary by Jerry Seinfeld called "Comedian". It's below for your viewing enjoyment!
