This story absolutely breaks my heart. I am thinking about this man's family and friends, everyone who knew and loved him. He died doing what he loved but he was taken from this world far too soon.

According to the NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief Facebook page, on September 20th just before 4pm NH fish and game was alerted that there was a climbing accident on Cannon Cliff in Franconia Notch State Park. The reports said that a climber had fallen after a large rock had dislodged and severed his climbing rope. How scary is that?!

At around 5:30 PM the climbers who were rappelling down the cliff located the body of the man who fell and determined he was deceased. By that point it was getting late so the decision was made that the climbers who had been searching needed to get back to the top of the cliff before the sun went down and the temperature dropped. The body was recovered the next day in daylight.

Rescuers determined that a rock the size of a refrigerator had dislodged as the climber approached from below. The climber was identified as 34-year-old Benjamin Kessel of Somerville Massachusetts.

As if this year hasn't been awful enough, now Benjamin's family is mourning his loss on top of everything else. There has been an outpouring of love on Facebook. People are sending condolences, thoughts, and prayers to his family and loved ones. May god bless Benjamin's soul and may his memory be a blessing.
