Ask Ruth Kundsin what the secret to a long life is and she will tell you. According to an article from Boston CBS Local Ruth says the secret is having something to look forward to.  Her workouts at the local South Shore YMCA put me to shame.  She is 103 and still exercising and meeting people, engaging in an active social life.

Ruth was born during the First World War.  That’s right, 1916 and she is still going strong.  She didn’t even retire until the age of 81 after a long career as a microbiologist.  Boston CBS quotes her as sharing her secret by saying “You’ve got to have something to look forward to.  That is the secret.

Ruth Kundsin works with a trainer after taking gold in the Senior Olympics in swimming.  She earned that gold medal at the age of 93!  Ruth is still writing also.  She is currently working on a book about her career in science and the discrimination she faced as a woman in that field.  She just has an infectious enthusiasm for life.  She has inspired me to get off the couch and get moving.  My birthday is coming up and I was feeling old, but Ruth Kundsin makes me feel like anything is possible
