Diners bring you back. They've been a staple in the restaurant and hospitality world for a long time. When I think of diners, sock hops, cherry sodas, and pomade comes to my mind. I think of the 50s when you would dress up in your best frock and slacks and head down to the diner to dance with that fella you had your eyes on.

According to Murphy's Diners,

..the diner as we know it didn’t come around until 1939. Roland Stickney was inspired by  art deco in general and trains in particular. Thus, he designed a diner in the shape of a streamlined train. It had a long counter, a casual atmosphere, and fast but filling American food. Stickney’s design was known as the Sterling Streamliner, and two examples of his work still exist today: The Salem Diner in

Salem, Massachusetts, and the Modern Diner in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Now that we know a little about the history of diners and how it started in the late 30s, I am curious about the spots we have here in Maine and how long they have been around. I did some digging and found that Moody's Diner in Waldoboro has been in operating since 1927!

I also wanted to know which diners are the best and what are you favorites? So we posed the question along many of our social media sites and received many responses from you!
