It's too easy for some of country music's biggest stars to empathize with Craig Morgan after the death of his son, Jerry. Artists like Brad Paisley, Martina McBride and Chris Janson are parents, and their hearts are breaking for a mainstay of country music who is also a friend.

Jerry Greer was killed on Sunday (July 10) after a tubing accident on Kentucky Lake, part of the Tennessee River in northern Tennessee. The 19-year-old was reportedly wearing a life jacket, but for some still-unknown reason it did not save his life when he fell off a tube being pulled behind a boat when the tube hit a wave. Rescue crews searched for over 24 hours before recovering his body on Monday night (July 11).

“Heartbroken tonight for my friend, @cmorganmusic, & his family over the loss of his son,” said Josh Turner after he learned the outcome. Paisley writes: “Myself, my band and crew, our hearts are broken for our friend @cmorganmusic and his family. There are no words.”

Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, Lindsay Ell, David Nail, Jamey Johnson and more also checked in with a kind word or prayer offering on social media. Morgan has been a country staple since his first hit in 2003. The Grand Ole Opry star’s son had just graduated high school and planned to play football at Marshall University in the fall.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Greer is survived by his parents Craig and Karen, sister Aly Beaird and brother-in-law Ryan Beaird, brother Kyle Greer and fiancée Chelsea Rogers and brother Wyatt Greer.
