Overnight Water Outages Coming to Parts of Dover Thursday Night
I had the water outage last time. Think I've been spared this time. If you live around downtown Dover or the Central Avenue area, you may want to shower, fill up a couple water bottles, maybe run the dishwasher early, and make sure the coffee pot is ready to go before bed Thursday night.
The City of Dover says there will be overnight water service interruptions and pressure fluctuations as crews continue work on the Central Avenue Urban Core water main replacement project.
The work is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
And depending on where you live, it could either mean a quick interruption… or a longer overnight outage.
The areas expected to see the longest outages include parts of Central Avenue, Chestnut Street, Fifth Street, Sixth Street, and all of Station Drive.
Sixth Street is probably going to feel this the most, with dozens of addresses expected to be impacted overnight.

There are also several surrounding areas where residents may notice brief repeated outages or water pressure drops during the work.
Those areas include:
Central Avenue from Broadway to Abbey Sawyer Memorial Drive
Abbey Sawyer Memorial Drive
Mount Vernon Street
Park Street
This is all part of the larger Central Avenue Urban Core improvement project happening in Dover right now. You’ve probably seen the construction, detours, torn-up pavement, and crews working throughout downtown over the last several months.
Not exactly fun… but also one of those projects that hopefully pays off long term with upgraded infrastructure and fewer issues down the road.
The city says the goal is to restore service as quickly as possible and minimize disruptions overnight. They’re also recommending residents and businesses store water ahead of time for anything essential.
I'd avoid starting laundry at midnight on Thursday.
The city also says they’re sending these alerts beyond the normal project email list because the impacts could affect people who haven’t signed up for updates yet.
