Famed Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine is About to Start Its 90th Season
90 years of regional theatre in the Seacoast. Isn't that just incredible to wrap your mind around? Thank you to the Ogunquit Playhouse for entertaining generations of families.
This longevity definitely demonstrates, to no ones surprise, the staying power and enormous importance that the arts play in society.
And in these 90 years, the Ogunquit Playhouse has become a renowned destination for regional theatre. Their 2022 season is described by Broadway World as a "knockout."
Are you ready for the lineup? I've attached links to each show listed below, so you can take a deeper dive into each one if you'd like.
Ogunquit Playhouse's 2022 season will premiere with The Cher Show on May 12. This is a Tony Award-winning biographical musical and feels like the perfect way to open up an exciting season.
The Nutty Professor starts on July 1. And are you ready for this? The final score is by none other than Marvin Hamlisch, who is an EGOT. If you're not familiar with that astounding and rare honor, it means Marvin has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony in his career.
Then get ready for the world premiere of the brand new musical Mr. Holland's Opus, with its opening night on August 12. The movie was so powerful and beautiful, and I can only imagine how sensational it will be when brought to life onstage.
Then the absolutely hilarious whodunit, Clue, my most favorite board game and a movie I've seen several times, opens on September 22. What a classic.
I found a video on the Ogunquit Playhouse Facebook page that I just had to share with you, because it truly shows you how excited Executive Artistic Director Bradford Kenney is to finally have a normal season after the first two years of this pandemic. I've attached it below.
