It’s the end of an era.

According to Fosters.com, the last Friendly’s on the Seacoast is officially closing on February 9th.

Sadly, the restaurant in Rochester will be no more next month.

Growing up in Western Mass, Friendly’s was a staple for us. My dad was an artist and actually did all the woodburnings that they hung in their restaurants. One of our favorite things was all piling in the car to go get a root beer float!

A spokesperson for the company told Fosters.com that as “shifting consumer demographics and market dynamics present challenges across the industry” it’s time to reevaluate long-term sustainability.

The article said there have been rumors for a while about the impending closure, but employees have declined to comment.

This is not the first Friendly’s that has gone out of business. Dover, Exeter and Portsmouth all have closed in the last 10 years.

If you’re craving that root beer float, you’re not completely out of luck though. The restaurants in Concord, Merrimack and North Conway will remain open…. for now.
