Sophia Griffin celebrated her eighth birthday recently and she knew exactly how she wanted to spend the day. Sophia told her mom, Dana Gadoury, that she wanted to climb her fourth New Hampshire 4,000 footer. Did I mention she's eight?! YOU GO GIRL!

Dana told me that Sophia has been hiking since the ripe age of two! Her first mountain was bald mountain/artist bluff in Franconia Notch. She's also conquered the Manitou incline in Colorado. Dana thinks Sophia is the youngest to ever do it unassisted. (no big deal) Sophia has hiked a ton of mountains in New Hampshire and Maine like Willard, Pemigewasset, and Burnt Meadow Mountain. As of her birthday she has completed four of the 48 4,000 footers in New Hampshire: Jackson, Pierce, Moosilauke, and now Lafayette.

It's 2020 and it can be hard to tear our kids away from their screens. I love that this kid WANTED to spend her birthday hiking a treacherous mountain with her mom. What an amazing experience Dana and Sophia got to share together:

Dana told me that she tells Sophia all the time that a lot of kids couldn't do what she does. Sophia doesn't believe it because she's humble like that. But maybe now that a radio station wrote an article all about her, she will know how cool she really is!
