We are so lucky to live in a part of the country with beautiful white sand beaches.  I say lucky because many tourists don't know how good we have it when it comes to sun, sand, and the ocean.

Although I love having some of the most stunning beaches only a short drive away, I cringe every time one is recognized nationally.  Why?  Because more people will seek it out, and we won't have this gem to ourselves anymore.  Is this selfish?  Maybe.

Travel and Leisure revealed its 25 best beaches in the United States, and Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts, ranked #15.

That's quite an honor, given most people in the U.S. don't think of the Northeast as having great beaches.

Beaches on the North Shore of Massachusetts have always been some of the most beautiful.  Also, travelinglifestyle.net recently published the best 8 beaches in Massachusetts, ranking Crane Beach in Ipswich as #1.

Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA, is a family-friendly beach with a wild sandbar in low tide that allows you to walk out to Salt Island, a rocky spot in the harbor.

There are concessions, bathrooms, and lots of soft, white sand to build sand castles all day. No floatation devices are allowed, but you can rent water toys at the concession stand.

Parking is at a premium for all Massachusetts beaches, so buy your parking passes early online.

Crane Beach, in Ipswich, MA is a favorite for its long, white, sandy beach where you can spend hours walking on the beach or on trails through the dunes.

There are concessions, a beach house to change, bathrooms, and a small beach shop.  You can bring skim boards and beach games for hours of family fun, and if you walk far enough, you can see an old shipwreck.

Enjoy a day at the beach with your family, friends, or by yourself.  The summer doesn't last that long in the Northeast, so take advantage of the short drive now, and remember that the water temperature doesn't warm up for a couple of months.
