Another Popular Store in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is Closing…Why? What is Going on?
Oh boy, another store in Portsmouth, New Hampshire is closing.
It has been an interesting start to 2025 with many closings and new openings in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
A few popular stores and breweries have already closed in 2025, and another one is being added to the list.
Life is Good, Good Vibes, Portsmouth, New Hampshire:
According to a Facebook post on the official Portsmouth, New Hampshire Facebook page, Good Vibes (the Life is Good store in Market Square) is closing its doors after nearly 30 years of serving the community.
There has been no official word on the closing on the Good Vibes website, however, there are signs on the windows of the downtown store that read "Store Closing."
But there is good news...a silver lining if you will...
Because the store is closing, everything store-wide is 50% off.
Why are stores closing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire?
There is no obvious answer to this, and every store or restaurant that closes has its own reasons.
That said, with multiple stores and happy hour spots closing in a short period, locals are speculating the reasoning...
One Facebook user commented and speculated that the closing was due to "the insane rent prices…" In fact, that seemed to be a common theory.
Another Facebook user commented, "At the tourism summit hosted by the Chamber last week, a downtown retail business owner said the reason Starbucks closed was that the location was the worst performing store in the entire country."
Other theories hinted at all of the shops downtown being "too expensive."
Needless to say, I am sad. I love the Life is Good brand. I love the story of how they got started. I loved the Good Vibes store...and how owners Susan and Ralph DeMarco opened it nearly 30 years ago.
Maybe this is a friendly reminder to support our favorite stores downtown.
