It's not the first time and it certainly won't be the last that a black bear was spotted taking a casual stroll in someone's backyard in New Hampshire. Check out this big guy in Alton.

It's a good thing these homeowners took in their bird feeders or this bear would have stuck around much longer!

Though no one has been killed by a black bear in New Hampshire since the year 1784 (according to New Hampshire Fish and Game) they are still a dangerous and unpredictable wild animal. If you do encounter a black bear keep your distance but make your presence known by clapping your hands or singing loudly. Do not run, avert your eyes or turn your back to the bear! (running would be my first instinct) If you enjoy putting bird feeders out on your property make sure you take them in before April 1st each year.
