Have you ever heard of an ice carousel?

I had not heard of a carousel on ice until I saw an epic news story about a man who creates one every winter on a lake in Minnesota.

According to the new article, and the Instagram post below from Fox9, the creator of the ice carousel cuts a massive circle through 12 inches of ice.

In the gap between the floating ice circle and the surrounding ice, a boat motor is placed to move the floating ice slab in a circular motion, creating the carousel.

Since it has become popular, the neighbors and creator decorate the floating carousel with blow-ups, trees, lights, etc.

This wildly cool tradition in Minnesota was done in New Hampshire just two years ago.

Two winters ago, in 2023, Lake Winnipesaukee residents gave the floating ice carousel a go - and it was epic.

Take a look at the last time an ice carousel was created on Lake Winnipesaukee.

2025 Ice Carousel on Lake Winnipesaukee:

Now, I don't live on Lake Winni, nor will I be helpful in this creation, but we need this to come back this winter.

If someone who lives on Lake Winnipesaukee, or any other lake in New England, could replicate or outdo Minnesota's ice carousel, that would be epic.

The creation of it seems "easy." It is the decorating with the blow-up animals, lights, trees, etc. that makes it so unique.
