Infant Killed In Maine Turnpike Crash

(Wells, Maine) - Maine State Police say a child was killed and 4 other people were injured in a one-car crash on the Maine Turnpike in Wells Monday afternoon.

The victim was 11 month old Reece Degen of Sanford. The little girl's mother --  21 year old Brianna Degen of Sanford was the front seat passenger in the car.

The driver was Alyssa Cray, 22, of Sanford.  Both women were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with multiple injuries.   Also  taken to Maine Medical were Cray's two children -- 4 month old Connor Cray, and three year old Alexandria Cray - both with minor injuries.  Conner was in a child safety seat and Alexandria was wearing a seat belt.  The dead child was also in a child safety seat in the back seat and suffered fatal head injuries. She died shortly after arrival at York Hospital.

The crash took place in heavy rain when Cray lost control of the car and it struck guardrails and then came to rest along the tree line beside the highway. Troopers continue to investigate the cause.
