If you've been living on the Seacoast for the last decade, you remember Louie's. It was the backdrop for so many Portsmouth first dates. Who doesn't want to enjoy artisanal pasta dishes and craft cocktails over forced small talk?

You might remember posting up at the bar and chatting with RJ who was/is the absolute man. RJ wore many hats sometimes he was a bartender, sometimes a host, and always a co-owner alongside James. RJ was happy to chat with customers and suggest wine pairings for each course.  If he really liked you he would serve a complimentary aperitif after you finished your meal.

What happened to Louie's?

We all remember the big fire that took down the State Street Saloon (or the Statey as locals like to call it) back in 2017.

At that time, Louie's posted a message of sympathy and gratitude on their social media explaining the situation. A fire began somewhere that resulted in the collapse of the building. As they watched the fire rage they began to fear for their own home. Thanks to the Portsmouth fire department, police department, and firefighters from surrounding communities their building stood strong.

They did, however, experience a great deal of smoke and water damage. They said they would be closed for the foreseeable future and would keep everyone posted.

They never opened again. That was almost a decade ago. Lovers of Louie's never forgot this absolute gem and continued to inquire what happened after all these years.

In 2018 they filled their loyal patrons in on what had been going on. Their plans of reopening weren't exactly coming to fruition however they shared they were the new proprietors of The Carriage House in Rye.

People were pumped to support the Louie's crew in a different capacity but they still pined for their long lost Portsmouth pasta spot.

We never lost hope that Louie's would come back some day. Well, that day is almost here.

That's right, Portsmouth party people! Louie's will be reopening in the West End of Portsmouth on 909 Islington Street this Spring.

We could not be more jazzed up about this! It could not happen at more perfect time; as the weather is warming up and we are all coming out of hibernation.

Follow Louie's on Instagram for the exact reopening date.
