Why This Southern Maine Intersection Is So Infuriating
Attention my Maine travelers, sometimes you just need to vent and this is that time, right now.
If you have ever attempted to take a simple turn at the corner of Mussey Road and Spring Street in Scarborough, you know exactly what I am about to say.
It’s impossible! That intersection, you know the one right by Walmart, is completely messed up. Honestly, it might be one of the most frustrating spots in southern Maine.
Okay, I am going to take a deep breath and explain why.
When you are sitting there waiting to take your left turn, the clock starts ticking and ticking and ticking some more. Before you realize it, your once brown hair has turned gray because it feels like forever before the signal changes.
By the time it finally does change you are lucky if more than a couple of cars make it through! Meanwhile, the other lanes, they’re fast! They get their green lights on repeat, sometimes even twice.
All the while you are sitting there stuck, with know way out, tapping your steering wheel and praying to the traffic gods.
Is This the Worst Intersection in Southern Maine?
Now, this isn’t just a minor inconvenience for your journey it does this thing that causes a ripple effect of backed up traffic, impatient driver, all for just trying to leave the grocery store.

Also, this isn’t a quiet intersection, it’s busy with people trying to leave Walmart, so you’d expect this light to adjust to the high travel need.
I’d love to hear what you think. Have you also been caught in the Mussey/Spring street gridlock and do you agree it’s one of the worst intersections around? Let us know!
