Watch a Young Lee Goldberg’s Sports Report at WBOY-TV in 1991
News Center Maine's Lee Goldberg is a Maine boy through and through. He grew up here, like me, and neither of us would want to live anywhere but Maine.
After I graduated from college I found my first full-time job on the radio in Bangor and later moved further north to Lincoln. Lee went to Bangor as well on WLBZ, but not before getting his first job as sports director at WBOY in West Virginia.
Luckily for us, Lee hung on to a tape of one of his sports reports at WBOY and shared it on his Facebook page.

Look at how young Lee looks! I could tell you how old he was in 1991, but the number does start with two. WBOY seems like the appropriate call letters since he's so young at his first job as a sports anchor.

I can tell you from my experience in radio that when you first start, you're nervous and the words don't come as easily as you would like them to until you've got more experience under your belt.
Lee said in his Facebook post that he is "honestly truly amazed that the network did not snatch me up at that exact moment. Really a missed opportunity for them." That's perfectly Lee and kudos to him for doing a fine job at his first gig.
Lee Comes Home
After around two years at WBOY, Lee came home to Maine to become the sports director at WLBZ in Bangor and later moved to the big leagues at News Center Maine in Portland.
Here's one last photo of Lee Goldberg along with Sharon Rose meeting Conan O'Brien teaching Conan "the intricacies of the entertainment business." That's so Lee.
