10 of the Best and Most Popular Steakhouses in Maine
Sorry vegetarians, but when you want a good steak, here are the places that are most recommended in Maine.
There is one exception to Maine, but you'll see. Let's start at #10 and work our way down to the best.
#10 Village Pizzeria Restaurant & Lounge - Mechanic Falls, Maine
Whether it's this NY Strip, steak tips, or steak bomb, it doesn't have to be fancy to be good, and Village Pizzeria in Mechanic Falls has a serious loyal following.
#9 The Library Restaurant - Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Okay, I know this isn't Maine, but it's close enough, and with enough people talking about how amazing the steaks are, we had to add it to the list. The Rockingham House is the site of the home once owned by Judge Woodbury Langdon. When this mansion was built in 1785, it was one of the most handsome brick houses in New England. It was in 1975 that a restaurant opened with the 'library' theme. They know steak, and if you are hungry enough, attempt the $85 26-ounce porterhouse!
#8 Sicilian Table - Falmouth, Maine
Choose your favorite cuts, like Angus beef tenderloin or Wagyu bistro filet, delectable sauces, and signature sides. They recommend mushroom risotto or garlic parmesan mashed potatoes. Pick and choose to create the perfect meal.
#7 Royal River Grill House - Yarmouth, Maine
You might not know that the Royal River Grill House is part of a family of restaurants, which include Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro in Freeport, Tuscan Table in South Portland, and Sicilian Table in Falmouth (#8 above). Royal River has been around for years, and is a treat with its wood-fired steaks. You'll also recognize the interior design of Nicola's Home. All of the restaurants are fascinating to look at, and the food is spectacular.
#6 LongHorn Steakhouse - 5 Locations From Biddeford to Bangor
Don't poo-poo the fact that a national chain made the list. If a pizzeria can make the list, then a national chain can be here too. When looking for a good reliable steak, LongHorn was constant for Mainers. If you go to the one in Scarborough, Maine, try to get Jose as your waiter.
#5 Rustler's Steakhouse - Windham, Maine
Rustler's Steakhouse in Windham came highly recommended, but it was very specific: the prime rib! Every once in a while you need some prime rib, and now you know where to get a good one!
#4 Mac's Grill - Auburn, Maine
Mac's Grill in Auburn once put the most profound thought on a Facebook post: "Eating is a necessity, but cooking is an art." I love this so much, and this picture makes me want to get in the car and drive to Auburn.
#3 The Steakhouse - Well, Maine
No reservations at this iconic steakhouse. If you want it bad enough, it's a first come first serve restaurant. They've been around long enough to know that if you wait (and are patient), it will all be worth it.
#2 The Grill Room - Portland, Maine
Award-winning chef Hading Lee Smith added the Grill Room to his other 'rooms' (Front Room, The Corner Room) in 2008, focusing on the meatier appetites. If you've been to any of the 'rooms', you know what to expect. If you haven't, what are you waiting for? It's one of Portland's finest restaurants.
#1 Lost Fire Grill & Bar - Kennebunkport, Maine
This is by far THE hands-down winner for Maine's best steakhouse. So many people who are the carnivorous type can't wait to recommend The Lost Fire with the owner, Chef Germán Lucarelli. Germán started cooking with his grandmother as a kid, and hasn't looked back. He loves cooking, and it shows in his passion for smoky, hearty, and authentic Patagonian barbecue. This is the steak you've always wanted. It might even turn the head of a vegetarian.
