Big Lots in Brunswick, Maine, will be closing for good.

The store at Cook's Corner is just the latest casualty for the furniture, mattress & home product chain, with the Portland Big Lots closing announcement only a couple of months before.

According to USA Today, Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September.

If you visit the Big Lots website, you will see that Portland is no longer listed on its locations page.

Only four are listed as of October 2024: Auburn, Augusta, Farmington, and Brunswick.

On the Brunswick store's location page, a banner highlights that the store is closing along with a closing sale.

No exact closure date has been set for the Brunswick Big Lots, but looking at the Portland location's timeline as a reference point, that store took about two months before it closed after the announcement.

The Biddeford Big Lots closed in 2023, while just down south in New Hampshire, the Claremont store is set to close in 2024. Additionally, The Hill reported that Belmont and Rochester stores will close.

That would leave only three stores in New Hampshire: Goffstown, Derry and Nashua.

NBC News 9 said that with the recent batch of closing announcements, "the total number of planned and completed closures " is over 500 stores.

It's sad to see another big-name retail chain struggling, but it unfortunately seems more often these days.

Just think of places like Christmas Tree Shops more recently, or Sears only a few years ago.

So if you want one last chance to check out the Brunswick Big Lots, better go now, because soon it will be gone.
