I think it's safe to say Maine is an ideal destination for weddings. I should know; I got married here, and it was well worth it.

There are so many options, like beautiful city weddings, rustic barn themes, exquisite seaside resorts, chartered cruises, and much more.

The state was pretty much built for them. So, it should be no surprise to see Maine strongly represented on an esteemed list of the best places to get married by the experts on the subject, TheKnot.com.

Two of America's Best Wedding Venues are in Maine

The popular website about all things marriage released a list of the best places nationwide to tie the proverbial knot. Two of Maine's most prestigious spots were included on this venerable list: Hidden Pond and the Cliff House.

Hidden Pond is a special place. Located in Kennebunkport, this seasonal, exquisite resort winds its way through Maine's beautiful landscape and features upscale lodges, bungalows, and cottages.

The spa is first-class, as are all of the amenities. However, it may be best known for having one of the finest restaurants in the entire state: Earth at Hidden Pond.

Here is why The Knot included Hidden Pond on its list:

Guests will decide between the property's thoughtfully decorated rooms in the bungalows. Hidden Pond, however, is known for its village comprised of adorable cottages, all located on 60 acres of birch forest...There's something for all ages here in terms of activities too: morning yoga classes, gardening sessions, hiking trails on the grounds, and evening bonfires.

Maine's other representative is just down the road in the beautiful village of Cape Neddick. Located right on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean, the amazing Cliff House resort awaits. It seriously looks like it's right out of the movies.

Along with the breathtaking views, Cliff House features a wealth of activities, such as watersports, golf, charters, spa services, and plenty of fine dining options. Plus, you can get married literally on the edge of a cliff.

Here is a little more of why The Knot chose Cliff House for the list.

Cliff House Maine is nestled on Bald Head Cliff with sweeping views of the water. Couples and their loved ones who dwell in the region can easily feel as though they're transported to an entirely new destination.

New England is Loaded with Outstanding Wedding Venues

These are two fine venues to represent Maine on this exclusive list. It should also be noted that these are two of just five New England destinations that were selected. Joining these Maine gems are two from Rhode Island (The Vanderbilt and The Chandler) and one from Massachusetts (Wynhurst Mansion). That's some pretty good company to be in.

You can find the entire list of 30 destinations here. It's quite the exclusive list. It certainly is cool to see Maine well represented.
