If you've been thinking that summer in Maine just keeps getting hotter, it's not your imagination.

According to WMTW, the five hottest summers in Portland, Maine, have all occurred since 2018.

It's not just southern Maine, either. According to the National Weather Service, the four hottest summers in Caribou, Maine, have all occurred in the last 7 years.

Average temperatures in July and August have steadily risen over the last 15 years to the point where it is very noticeable at all hours of the day.

Extreme Heat Days in Maine Are Happening More Than Ever

It isn't just the average temperature that has steadily risen over the last decade plus, it's also the extreme heat days becoming more prevalent.

According to WGME, days of extreme heat have begun happening in Maine more frequently. That has leading to a heavier reliance on air conditioning which not only cost Maine people money but puts pressure on an already fragile power grid.

Many of those extreme heat days have also brought increased dew points. Humidity has always been an issue during Maine summers but over the last decade, the humidity has moved into the 'oppressive' category far too often.

Maine has averaged a daytime high in July of 79 degrees over the last 5 years.

Nighttime Temperatures Have Continually Risen in Maine During the Summer

It isn't just the daytime highs that have spiked over the last 15 years, it's also the temperatures after the sun goes down.

According to WGME, Maine has averaged 30 nights each summer over the last decade where temperatures would be classified 'above normal'.
