Every single day, there's a travel blog or a food critic releasing a new list talking about the best places to visit or the best places to eat across the country. Maine should be proud that the state is regularly featured on these lists. Vacationland is home to top-tier restaurants, scenic destinations and beyond.

But occasionally, some of the travel blogs make a choice that seems particularly odd. On the surface, that choice would seem to make sense but goes against everything that people who live in the state have come to know. And it's happened again.

The travel site Love Exploring decided to name the most iconic landmark in every state across the country. Unsurprisingly, Love Exploring chose a specific lighthouse as the iconic landmark in Maine. But is it the one you're thinking of?

Love Exploring chose Bass Harbor Head Light Station inside Acadia National Park. The lighthouse itself is historical (built in 1858) and memorable considered it was constructed on craggy cliffs. And while it's visited and photographed by so many each and every year, it feels like another lighthouse in Maine is truly the iconic one.

That would be Portland Head Light at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. From postcards to tee shirts to whatever other item you can slap a lighthouse on, it feels like Portland Head Light is the lighthouse everyone thinks of when they visit Maine. Heck, it's the one locals think of when someone asks to visit a lighthouse.

So which of the two lighthouses is more iconic? And does it even matter?
