New Hampshire Chef Opening Market and Cafe in Former Hearth Eatery in Portsmouth
You know, I have to say, I called it.
When I heard that Chef Michael Buckley was going to expand his Market/Cafe model in downtown Portsmouth on Mike's Italian Kitchen Facebook page, I just knew that plans were probably already in the works for him to move into the Hearth Market space. Heck, he probably has been planning this since they closed!

It was a pretty easy assumption though. I mean, Hearth would be perfect for a Market/Cafe. That's kinda what they did, so I'll be curious to see how Chef Buckley changes it. (or maybe doesn't?)
Buckley's Market & Cafe to Open Before the end of 2025
According to seacoastonline.com, Chef Buckley is going to take over the 20,000 square foot space on the entire first floor that used to be Hearth Eatery & Bar at 60 Penhallow Street. He hopes to open by the end of 2025.
Chef Buckley already has one of the best restaurants in town with Surf and now he is going to have two locations in the ever-growing Portsmouth.
NH Chef Has Other Restaurants with the Market/Cafe Model
Right now, Michael Timothy's Dining Group has two Bakery & Cafe models, one at 436 DW Highway, Merrimack, NH and the other at 9 Market Place in Hollis, NH.
The other restaurants owned by Chef Buckley are:
- Buckley's Great Steaks in Merrimack, NH
- Lost Cowboy Brewing Company, Nashua, NH
I am sure that Chef Buckley will be looking for help with getting the place up and running, so if you are looking for a job and know how to work hard, you can find the job listings on the MTG website.
