Fire Damages Three Hampton, New Hampshire, Businesses

A three-alarm fire damaged a building that houses three businesses on Ocean Boulevard in Hampton just after midnight Friday morning.

The owner of North Beach Bar and Grill discovered smoke in the building when she got an alert about the door of the business, and called 911 around 12:20 a.m., Hampton Fire Chief Michael McMahon told Seacoast Current.

McMahon said the first firefighters that responded found the Grill's kitchen filled with smoke from floor to ceiling. They found the fire in the ceiling of the Grill and the Secret Spot restaurant next door, and it was heading towards Cinnamon Rainbows.

"The fire didn't get its way into Cinnamon Rainbows, but the store was full of smoke," McMahon said, adding that all the businesses were closed and empty at the time.

McMahon said that power, gas, and water has been shut off for the entire building.

Crews from Amesbury, Brentwood, Dover, East Kingston, Exeter, Greenland, Hampton Falls, Kingston, Newburyport, Newington, North Hampton, Portsmouth, Rye, Seabrook, Stratham, and York Rehab all responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Impact on the Businesses

The Secret Spot said on its Instagram account that the location will close for the year.

"Thanks to Hampton Fire Department for saving the building from burning to the ground. Shop will be closed for the next few days for cleanup," Cinnamon Rainbows wrote on their Facebook page.

McMahon is confident that they will come back from the fire.

"They're a great group," McMahon said. "The guy who owns Cinnamon Rainbows is terrific. He's been around the beach forever and he's built that up into an institution on Hampton Beach. I have confidence that will continue. I fully expect Cinnamon Rainbows with be back up and running."
