Hampton Man Rescued While Hiking New Hampshire’s Mt. Chocorua

A Hampton man and his dog had to be helped off Mt. Chocorua Monday after injuring his knee during a hike late Monday afternoon.

New Hampshire Fish & Game said Robert Haile, 54, was on the Piper Trail with his dog when he fell. Haile was unable to stand and had to wait for another hiker in order to call for help. Rescuers from Lakes Region Search and Rescue (LRSAR) and Fish & Game responded around 6:30 p.m. and helped get Haile get into a rescue litter to be carried over three miles down the trail.

Haile's daughter was waiting at the trailhead when he arrived over four hours later, and took him to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for further treatment.

On his Facebook page, Haile said he ruptured his left quadriceps, and thanked everyone who came to his rescue.

Mt. Chocorua is located in the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains and is one of state's most frequently hiked mountains, according to the Chocorua Lake Conservancy. Although it has lower elevation hikes, it can be very strenuous.
